Welcome to San Diego Freedivers fellow Spearos!
The San Diego Freedivers is San Diego’s premier spearfishing club. Ever since its
founding by Ray Dittenhoefer in 1994, we have been united by our passion for
spearfishing and our love of the ocean. We are guided by our Code of Ethics which is
based on four pillars: safety, stewardship, camaraderie, and respect. The SDF is an
inclusive club and we welcome Spearos of all skill levels and abilities. Every SDF
member is an ambassador for the sport.
The SDF hosts monthly meetings which feature talks from local experts on a variety of
topics including inshore and offshore spearfishing, speargun rigging and safety, ocean
conservation, and travel. We also host social and competition based events throughout
the year, and in order to encourage some healthy competition amongst members we
host an annual awards ceremony where we recognize the year’s most accomplished
Spearos. Our meetings and events are open to all members, and are a great
opportunity to connect with new dive buddies and create lifelong friendships.
As an SDF club member, you will be granted access to our private Facebook and
WhatApp groups where you will be informed of all upcoming meetings and events.
These groups are also a great resource for connecting with fellow club members,
getting the local dive report, and sharing fish stories.
